From: Bryan and Peggy K. Enderle - Smelling like Jesus For we are to God the pleasing aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing. 2 Corinthians 2:15 This Monday the dorm small groups decided to celebrate what God has been doing in the fellowship. Each group wrote down names of non-Christians who had come to their bible study in January. We were astonished and encouraged to see 35+ names written down! It's one thing to get non-Christians to come to our social events - it's another to get them to come and study the bible with us. We heard a common theme as we shared stories: our communities did not represent "typical" Christians who tried to force religion on others. Instead, people were drawn to the quality of the communities. One freshman shared that her friend had said to her, "I don't know why I keep coming back... but I have never felt welcomed like this before." Our students are helping their friends intepret these experiences as the presence of Jesus in them as opposed to taking credit for being nice people. We are praying for these students to continue to be a part of our community. We want them to be drawn by the aroma of Jesus and make decisions to follow him! We challenged small group leaders to take risks and make calls to faith in small groups. Please pray that they will seize the opportunities when God presents them. |
